Video on your website (part #2, what NOT to do)
Annoying your visitors is no way to make a sale and one of the most annoying things you can do on your website (there are a few) is to have a video begin playing automatically as soon as your visitor opens the page. Always give them the choice of watching the video only if they like and make sure to give them control of the audio volume as well.
There’s no point in even having a video on your website if your visitors leave out of boredom waiting for it to load. Website visitors are generally pretty impatient so make sure your videos are short and load quickly.
Making your visitors dizzy is typically a bad idea. While the video doesn’t necessarily have to be professional production quality, it should look like somebody older than 3 years old is holding the camera. Keep the camera steady, focused on your subject and avoid fast or jerky motions. If there is audio, make sure it is clear and understandable.
Videos with no purpose just waste your time and your visitor’s time as well. Website visitors hate to have their time wasted. Make sure all your videos have a purpose and are relevant to the page you’re putting them on. Your type of business will dictate the type and quantity of videos for your site but be careful not to over do it.
Most Importantly: Don’t forget the text! Just because you have video doesn’t mean you can ignore the text. Some people can’t or will choose not to view the video so you’ll want to make sure they still have the text to read. Plus, Search Engines live on text so make sure they get plenty.
Basically put yourself in your website visitors place and use some common sense as to what would help make the sale and what would send them running to your competitor’s site.
